How to Choose the Right Advisor for Company Formation in the Netherlands – Edda Creative

More and more providers offer company formation in the Netherlands. That is good news, but more choice makes the right choice harder. Incorporation itself is usually a fairly standard process that takes a few days. The real difference shows after incorporation: opening a bank account, setting up bookkeeping and VAT, hiring the first employee and starting to do business in the Dutch market.

Drawing on the experience of our teams in Amsterdam and Ankara, here are seven questions to ask when choosing an advisor for company formation in the Netherlands.

1. Do you have a team based in the Netherlands?

Much of the work in the Netherlands involves face-to-face meetings, a local network and Dutch-language communication: banks, office rental, accountants and public bodies. A remote service can complete the incorporation, but a team on the ground makes a real difference in the first year.

2. Who supports you after incorporation?

Does the proposal cover only the notary and KvK registration, or also the bank account, VAT number, bookkeeping, hiring and market entry? Without defined post-formation support, your company may be on its own the day it is registered.

3. Are costs itemised in writing?

A sound proposal separates one-off costs (notary, KvK, translations, apostilles, permit fees, formation advice) from recurring costs (address or office, accounting, payroll, bank, operational support). If only a low formation fee is highlighted and recurring costs stay vague, the total budget after year one can look very different.

4. Is the structure aligned with support programmes in Türkiye?

Companies expanding from Türkiye can benefit from various support programmes, and eligibility often depends on the shareholder structure of the Dutch entity. Getting the structure right from the start avoids costly changes later.

5. Are residence and structure assessed together?

Will the owner live in the Netherlands or manage the company from Türkiye? A BV, a branch or a self-employed application under the Ankara Agreement each have different implications for residence and tax. These decisions should be made together.

6. Do they have market entry experience?

The goal of incorporating is to do business in the Netherlands and Europe. A partner with experience in positioning, Dutch and English communication, websites, LinkedIn and trade fairs closes the gap between incorporation and market entry. See examples on How We Work With You.

7. Which languages do they work in?

Communicating in Turkish with management in Türkiye and in Dutch and English with Dutch institutions and partners prevents misunderstandings and delays.

Frequently asked questions

How long does company formation in the Netherlands take?

With documents in order, notary and KvK registration can be completed within a few business days. Getting the company operational with a bank account, VAT number and bookkeeping usually takes a few weeks.

Can I set up a Dutch company without travelling to the Netherlands?

Many steps can be handled remotely with a power of attorney and certified documents. Some bank and authority steps may require an in-person meeting; our team in the Netherlands supports these.

What does it cost to set up a company in the Netherlands?

It depends on the legal form, shareholder structure, residence needs and post-formation services. Ask for a written proposal that lists one-off and recurring costs separately.

Do you support companies after incorporation?

Yes. We support banking, accounting, hiring, structure alignment with programmes in Türkiye and market entry throughout the first year.
