Public holidays 2027: the Netherlands and Türkiye calendar

If you work between the Netherlands and Türkiye, planning 2027 means looking at two holiday calendars. While everyone is at their desk in one country, offices may be closed in the other; and sometimes both countries take the same week off. Knowing these days in advance when you plan meetings, campaigns, deadlines and trade fair preparations prevents missed emails and slipping projects.

Below we have compiled the 2027 public holidays from official sources: for the Netherlands, the official list of the Dutch government (Rijksoverheid); for Türkiye, Law No. 2429 and, for the religious holidays, the calendar of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).

In short: the key dates of 2027

  • Ramadan Feast (Ramazan Bayramı): 9–11 March (Tuesday–Thursday); the eve, 8 March, is a half-day holiday from 13:00.
  • Feast of Sacrifice (Kurban Bayramı): 16–19 May (Sunday–Wednesday); the eve, 15 May, is a half-day holiday from 13:00.
  • Easter in the Netherlands: Good Friday 26 March, Easter 28–29 March.
  • Both countries on holiday: 1 January and 16–17 May (the Feast of Sacrifice coincides with Whitsun).
  • Note: in 2027, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day (19 May) falls on the fourth day of the Feast of Sacrifice, so the overlap does not create an extra day off.

How are public holidays set in Türkiye?

In Türkiye, national and public holidays are set by Law No. 2429 on National Holidays and General Holidays. Because the dates of the Ramadan Feast and the Feast of Sacrifice follow the lunar calendar, they change every year and are set according to the Diyanet calendar. The eves of these religious holidays and 28 October are half days from 13:00. Whether public sector employees get extra administrative leave on bridge days is usually announced closer to the date; there is no decision for 2027 yet.

School holidays in the Netherlands: 2026–2027 school year

In the Netherlands, the pace of work slows not only on public holidays but also during school holidays. The country is divided into three regions (north, central and south), and some holidays differ by region:

  • Christmas holiday: 19 December 2026 – 3 January 2027 (all regions)
  • Spring holiday (voorjaarsvakantie): north and central 20–28 February, south 13–21 February 2027 (advisory)
  • May holiday: 24 April – 2 May 2027 (all regions)
  • Summer holiday: north 10 July – 22 August, central 17 July – 29 August, south 24 July – 5 September 2027

In summer, part of every Dutch team is always on holiday. For work that needs a decision in July or August, it is worth allowing for slower replies.

The quiet weeks of 2027 for teams working between both countries

  • 4–8 January: after the New Year break, Dutch schools reopen on 4 January; in both countries, work picks up again during the first week of the year.
  • 8–12 March: the Ramadan Feast week in Türkiye. Because the holiday falls mid-week, many people may take the whole week off.
  • 26–29 March: Easter in the Netherlands. On the same weekend, 28 March, the Netherlands switches to summer time and the time difference between the two countries drops back to 1 hour.
  • 23 April – 7 May: 23 April in Türkiye, then King’s Day (27 April), the May school holiday, Liberation Day (5 May) and Ascension Day (6 May) in the Netherlands. Many Dutch people also take the Friday after Ascension Day off.
  • 15–19 May: the clearest shared quiet period of the year: the Feast of Sacrifice in Türkiye and Whitsun in the Netherlands. It is safest not to schedule meetings, launches or deadlines on these dates.
  • July–August: the Dutch summer holiday, spread across the regions; 15 July and 30 August in Türkiye.
  • 28–29 October: the long Republic Day weekend in Türkiye.
  • End of December: the period between Christmas and New Year, when many Dutch companies slow down or close.

A short checklist for your 2027 plan

  • Add both calendars to your shared calendar. Entering both countries’ holidays in your team’s calendar now prevents clashes in meeting invitations from the start.
  • Keep campaigns and launches away from the quiet weeks. If you plan emails, press releases or launches around 8–12 March or 15–19 May, allow for part of your audience being on holiday.
  • Work back from your deadlines. If a project’s final day falls on a religious holiday or a long Dutch weekend, bring the approval process forward by a week.
  • Plan trade fair preparations around the holidays. When preparing for spring and autumn fairs, make sure printing, production and shipping do not clash with holidays in either country. For the key technology events of 2027, see our 2027 AI events calendar.
  • Prepare greetings in advance. Short messages to business partners on days such as the Ramadan Feast, Easter or King’s Day strengthen relationships; make sure they suit each country’s language and customs.
  • Mind the time difference. Until 28 March 2027 the difference between the Netherlands and Türkiye is 2 hours, after that 1 hour. See our winter time article for details.
